Our Board of Trustees
Matthew SkiltonTumuaki/Principal

I joined Tahatai Coast School as an experienced Tumuaki (Principal) in 2016, moving from Wellington, where I was a tumuaki at a school in the Hutt Valley.

Born and raised in Hawkes Bay, I was excited to begin my teaching career in Flaxmere, Hastings, in 1994. Since then, I have taught in the UK and Wellington, eventually being appointed to senior leadership in 2004. As Deputy Principal, I quickly discovered my passion for educational leadership and was appointed to my first principalship a few years later.

In my capacity as a Tumuaki I am responsible for driving the strategic intent of Tahatai Coast School, working collaboratively alongside an incredible team. As an educational leader, I am here to support and enable quality teaching and learning. Ensuring our kura (school) is a great place for tamariki (our students), kaiako (our staff) and whānau (our community).

As a board member, I offer strategic education insight and leadership to the board, in addition to serving as the board's CEO, reporting on all aspects of operational life and management at school.

Tim AckerPresiding Member

I am a parent-elected board member who has been serving on the Tahatai Coast School Board since March 2018 and have been Presiding Member since November 2019.

All three of my children have attended TCS but the older two are off to their respective intermediates and high schools. During our time here we have really enjoyed the sense of belonging and the great community feel that this school brings.

My working life began in education with thirteen years teaching experience, eleven of these I was a teacher/team leader at Tahatai Coast School. Since leaving the teaching profession I have started a successful business in the construction industry. These two different skill sets have complimented my time on the board in being able to seek information from both an educational and business perspective.

I find it a privilege to be serving on a board that really values providing clear governance which enhances the educational outcomes for ALL tamariki. The collaboration of our team is a highlight for me in the way that we are all able to commit our time to build on the solid foundation that has been set before us. As we continue to strive for excellence, I know that we are applying some clear strategic intent to all of our decision making, future proofing decisions that provide clear direction for ongoing years.

Hayden McCormack         Staff Representative

I have the privilege of being the elected staff representative on the Board of Trustees. While I am new to this role, I have been a senior school teacher and whanau leader for the past ten years at Tahatai, which has enabled me to see how students of this age work, and what our Year 6 students can aspire to achieve before they move on to the next step in their education. I have a real interest in the governance of our school, and I look forward to contributing to our kura in this role.

My wife and three daughters have lived in Papamoa for ten years, and love living and working in this wonderful community.

I am a parent representative on the Tahatai Coast School Board and have been actively involved in the school community for several years. I am passionate about supporting a school that sits at the heart of its community and plays such an important role in shaping our children’s futures.

Together with my wife Kerrie we have two children at Tahatai, Ollie in year 5 and Stella in year 2. Like many families, we spend a lot of our time juggling school life, sports, activities, and the general chaos that comes with raising kids. Being part of the Board allows me to give back to our community and help ensure decisions are made with both students and families firmly in mind.

Professionally, I am the owner of TWG Financial Services, where we support businesses and families to protect their financial futures. This background allows me to bring a practical, solutions focused approach to governance, with experience in financial planning, risk management, and strategic decision-making that supports the school’s long-term growth and sustainability.

Tahatai Coast School is fortunate to have an exceptional team of teachers and staff who genuinely care about the children they support. I have seen first-hand the positive impact this has on students’ confidence, learning, and wellbeing. I am proud to serve on the Board and remain committed to helping the school continue to thrive, while always remembering that

Kia ora, I was elected as a parent representative onto the Board in 2025 for the next three years. I have a daughter who is beginning Year 4 in 2026 and a son who is starting Year 1. We've loved our involved in the school community over the last few years and are excited to watch the school grow and develop.

I'm an Associate in the property team at Sharp Tudhope lawyers and have been doing that for six years following a ten year stint in sports administration.

The school faces daunting, exciting and interesting challenges over the coming years as we try to bed in a new curriculum coupled with changing expectations for our students. My focus will  be on making sure that parents are kept in the loop as the school goes on this journey. Communication and engagement are vital to making sure that whanau are engaged and can support our children's learning journey through Tahatai..

In my spare time I enjoy helping out with my kids various extra curricular pursuits and follow the fortunes of my various sports teams far too closely.

I am a co-opted trustee of the Tahatai Coast School Board and have been a parent of the school for the past 9 years.  Two of my children are beginning their Tahatai journey, while my oldest child was a previous student and is now in high school.

I am a Portfolio Manager in the corporate office of ACC. I work remotely from home in Pāpāmoa, with some travel to Wellington. I lead a team that looks after a series of NZ-wide rehabilitation contracts. My work involves health service design, contract negotiation, team management and strategic planning.

Our family has a passion for sports and the outdoors, with most of our activities based around this. We also enjoy the school community we belong to, many of our friends being made through our Tahatai Coast connection.

I look forward to working with the other board members and management team to support all students to achieve their best and grow as actively involved learners.
